A request to Jewish leaders to substantiate his contention that Petlura was opposed to the pogroms was made by Professor Koval of Prague, former Ukrainian nationalist leader, testifying in the Schwartzbard investigation.

Koval asked Magistrate Peyre to call Jewish leaders who can prove, he said, that in 1921 he conducted negotiations on Petlura’s behalf to organize propaganda against the pogroms.
