An attempt to whitewash the Roumanian government of its responsibility in the anti-Jewish excesses was made by Octavian Goga, Roumanian Minister of the Interior, in an article published in the “Neues Wiener Journal.” Goga’s article is entitled “Bolshevism and Anti-Semitism in Roumania.” Goga declares in the article that there is no active anti-Semitic movement in Roumania.
“Our religious toleration excludes batred. The Roumanian government is as anti-Semitic as it is philo-Semitic. The government strives to preserve law and order. All Jews are Roumanian citizens and have the same rights as the members of other religions. As to the few regrettable incidents, the Roumanian government declares that the students and other groups which created the disturbances will be punished according to the law,” the Minister of the Interior writes.
