Jews Smallest Number in Maryland Prisons

The proportion of Jewish prisoners at the Maryland Penitentiary and the Maryland House of Correction is extremely small, according to the annual report of the State Board of Welfare just made public.

Of 1,065 convicts at the Penitentiary, only 18 are Jews, the figures show. The Methodists head the list with 385 prisoners. Next come the Baptists with 284, followed by 264 Catholics. Lutherans number 38, Episcoplians 23 and Presbyterians 18.

At the House of Correction the percentage of Jews is even less, there being only 11 Jews out of a total of 1,521 prisoners. Practically the same order of religious preference was reported by the House of Correction. The list follows: Methodists 512, Baptists 472, Catholics 376, Lutherans 49, Protestants 47, and Presbyterians 26.
