The airship “City of Jerusalem,” which is to link Great Britain with India via Palestine, was christened yesterday by Lord Plumer, High Commissioner of Palestine, at impressive ceremonies held at the Kalendia airdrome. The High Commissioner, accompanied by Col. Symes and officials of the air service, made an experimental flight following the exercises.
In opening the ceremonies, Col. Burchall, assistant manager general of the British Imperial Airways, stated that Palestine is a wonderfully developed country and he expects Palestinians to make use of the latest methods of transportation. It was impossible, for technical reasons, to establish the air station in Jerusalem, but they decided to name this liner in the air service the “City of Jerusalem.”
The High Commissioner, replying to the address of Col. Burchall, thanked him on behalf of the people of Palestine for naming the airship the “City of Jerusalem.” Palestine is an important link between Great Britain and the East. The Imperial Airways do not merely join the localities technically but do much more, the High Commissioner declared.
DR. EMANUEL LIBMAN SAILS FOR PALESTINE
Dr. Emanuel Libman, New York heart specialist, sailed for Palestine on Saturday as representative of the American Jewish Physicians Committee, to conduct a series of lectures in the Medical Department of the Hebrew University at Jerusalem. A clinic will be conducted in the Rothschild Hospital of the Hadassah Medical Organization.
Dr. Libman is treasurer of the American Jewish Physicians Committee and a member of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University.
