Chief Rabbi Zirelson received a letter threatening his life. It was addressed from the town of Bender. The Rabbi was warned that unless he ceases criticizing the Government and the nationalists, he would be murdered. The letter was signed “A Student of Timisvar.”

Kishineff lived through a day of anxicty today. Several hundred Cuzist students arrived from Jassy, intending to celebrate the ninth anniversary of the unification of Bessarabia with Roumania. They wanted to demonstrate in front of the Italian Consulate and it was feared that attacks would be made on the Jews.

A delegation arrived from Jassy on Friday to ask the authorities for permission to holld the demonstration. The Governor-General refused to give his permission and warned the students that orders had been given not to allow them to enter the town.

On Sunday, before daybreak the Cuzist students arrived by train from Jassy and tried to break their way into town. They were held back, however, at the railway station by military patrols and were detained under guard till five o’clock in the afternoon. They were then put into the train and sent back to Jassy.

The Jewish population is relieved that the day passed quietly and they point to the result of the vigorous action of the authorities to show that if the authorities wished, they could prevent anti-Semitic disturbances.
