Comzet Reports to Soviet Government on Progress of Jewish Colonization

A detailed report of the work of the Government Coinmission for Jewish Land Settlement Comzet was presented this week to the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee here. The report covers the period of October 12th, 1925, to January 1st, 1927.

During this period 44,044 hectares of land were allocated in Northern Crimea, (in the districts of Jankiu and Eupatoria) for the settlement of 1,260 Jewish families. In addition, 20.296 hectares were consolidated for the use of 638 families who settled in these regions before the State started the allocation of land in the Crimea for Jews, the report states.

The State assigned a million Roubles during 1926 for the work of the Comzet. Of this 454.000 roubles were expended in the Ukrainian colonics, 120.000 roubles in White Russia, 25,000 roubles in the Province of Homel, 6,000 roubles in Azerbain. 70,000 roubles for the purchase of agricultural machinery and 325,000 roubles for providing building materials through the agency of the Jewish Colonization Society Ozet.

Transmigration orders were issued during 1926 to 5,054 families. Of these, 1,072 families contributed 10 roubles each to the settlement work. 2,253 families contributed a hundred roubles each, 1,031 families contributed 300 roubles each, 450 families contributed 500 roubles each and 248 families settied on the land entirely at their own expense, receiving from the Gov-erniment only the land free of charge. Three thousand five hundred and sixty-six families settled during the past year in the Ukraine. Altogether 5,003 families were settled on the land during 1926, making together with those previously settled a total of 10,229 families. 2.294 new houses have been built in the period in the new settlements.
