Joseph Miller, Jewish real estate dealer of Detroit, filed a suit for $200,000 damages against Henry Ford and the “Dearborn Independent”, as a result of the $1,000,000 suit brought by Aaron Sapiro, which was declared a mistrial.
Miller charges Ford and others with having attempted “maliciously and wilfully” to injure his good name and bring him “into public scandal by causing him to be suspected of having attempted to corrupt a jury” in the Ford-Sapiro suit.
Charges that Miller was seen talking to Mrs. Cora Hoffman, one of the jurors in the Sapiro suit, were made the basis of a motion for a mistrial in the case.
Statements concerning his conversation with Mrs. Hoffman were made by Ford agents, Miller declares and were published in Detroit, Chicago and New York newspapers. These statements, Miller alleges, accused him of having had secret conferences with Sapiro and accused him also of having invited Mrs. Hoffman to dinner “to talk things over.”
LOUIS MARSHALL ADDRESSES N.Y. LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES
Louis Marshall delivered the address at the graduating exercises of the New York Law School at Carnegie Hall last night.
The degree of Bachelor of Laws was conferred on 327 students. One hundred and forty Jewish students are among the graduates.
