A novena, a Catholic devotion recited on nine successive days for the granting of a special wish, was invoked by the dignitaries of the Catholic Church in their effort to bring about the speedy conversion of Jews to Christianity.
It was learned here today that the Pope and many cardinals and bishops are now holding a novena for this purpose.
In connection with this ceremony, it was also stated that instructions were issued by the dignitaries of the Church to the Catholic representatives in Palestine, Italy, France and Germany, urging that they instill in Catholic children kind feelings toward the Jews.
Cardinal Hayes could not be reached because of his absence from the city. Monsignor Thomas G. Carroll, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of New York, stated that he was unaware of any such instructions having been issued to Catholies in America.
