Palestine Rabbi Invited to Head Salonica Community.

The question of providing an incumbent for the vacant position of Chief Rabbi of Salonica continues to hold the interest of the community, When it was found that no agreement could be arrived at with Rabbi Dr. Ehrenpreis, an invitation to become the spiritual leader of Greek Jewry was extended to Rabbi Freier, of Berlin. Rabbi Freier had already accepted office in Berlin, and an invitation was then extended to Rabbi Bension Uziel, formerly Chief Rabbi of Salonica and now head of the community of Jaffa and Tel-Aviv. It is expected that Rabbi Uziel will accept the post.

DR. ABRAMOVITZ RESIGNS AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF JEWISH NATIONAL FUND.

Dr. Abramovitz stated that he will leave for Palestine on July 27 on the Mauretania, to take charge of the head office of the Judea Life Insurance Co. Dr. Abramovitz’s resignation was accepted by the Administrative Committee.

The last religious services in the present edifice of Temple Emanu-El, will be held next Friday evening and Saturday morning next. The building has been sold and will shortly be razed. Rr. Hyman G. Enelow will preach.

A feature of Friday night’s services will be the presence of several hundred Jewish students of the summer courses at Columbia University.

An incomplete check-up by drive leaders shows that the campaign for $100,000 for the United Palestine Appeal in Newark, N. J. went over the top by $300. Several synagogues have not yet rendered complete reports. A check for $50,000 or one-half of the quota, has been remitted to national headquarters.

Of the 195 candidates who have qualified for admission to the New Jersey Bar as attorneys, are Jews. Twenty-three of the seventy candidates who qualified for the degree of counsellor are Jews.
