British-ukraine Intrigue Reports Denied in Commons by Austen Chamberlain

An emphatic denial of the reports circulated in Paris to effect that the British Government has entered into an intrigue with the followers of Petlura. to create an uprising in the Ukraine, was made today at the House of Commons by Austen Chamberlain, British Foreign Secretary.

Replying to an interpeliation of Sir George P. Trevalyan, former Minister of Labor Chamberlain stated that tl## was not a word of truth in the allegations made in the Paris newspapers. Neither Lord Creme, nor any member or servant of the British activities has engaged in any such activities.

There was some ##. Chamberlain continued, in certain quarters, about the advisability of establishing an independent Ukranian Government ## encouraged these tendencies. I have no sympatny for the policy of the Soviet Government. I heartily detest their methods at home and abroad. But there is no better and surer way of s##ngthening the Soviet Government and having the people of Russia rally behind to than by countenancing any action which would seem to the Russian people to threaten their national unity.
