The release of Oscar Slater, who served eighteen years of a life sentence for the murder of Miss Marion Gilchrist, an aged Glasgow woman, in December, 1908, is expected soon, according to an announcement made in Parliament by Sir John Gilmour, Secretary of State for Scotland.
“I have felt justified in deciding to authorize Slater’s release as soon as suitable arrangements can be made,” Sir John said.
Slater’s trial caused widespread interest both in Great Britain and America.
