An effort toward strict observance of Sunday as the Sabbath is being made by Catholic clergy in the Province of Quebec. A pastoral letter, signed by two archbishops and fifteen bishops of the Province of Quebec, has been issued to Catholics throughout the province urging the law of Sunday Observance “and more particularly we insist upon the suppression of all labor on that holy day.” The letter makes particular mention of the cessation of amusements on Sunday and entertainments which have become money-making operations. The pastoral letter then says in part, “If such existing abuses have not entirely disappeared, we are in hopes that very soon, thanks to the efforts of men of good will, work on Sundays and Holy Days will cease in our province.”
