Claim Authorities Lent Support; Demand Fulfillment of Promises; Colleagues Threaten Unless Convicted Students are Released; Protest Meeting is Held in Paris (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
Sensational accusations directed against the Roumanian government in connection with the anti-Jewish excesses in Transylvania were made in a statement published by the Christian Students League in the “Cuvintul.”
According to the statement of the Christian Students League, the government supported the Oradeamare demonstration which was aimed against Jews and Hungarians. Prior to the congress, the government made far-reaching promises to the student leaders but later when the scandal aroused wide attention, the government denied everything, the statement declares.
The faculty of the school of philosophy at the Bucharest University urged the government to withdraw the punitive measures taken against the students. Now the students urge Understate Secretary Tartareson to fulfill the promises made, otherwise the students will declare a strike and reveal all the facts in connection with the Transylvanian excesses, the statement declares.
