Conditions in the Jewish colonies of the Krivoy Rog and Cherson areas are improving, reports received here state.
Extraordinary measures to provide food for the colonists and the livestock are still needed, however, the reports state. The cooperatives and the Soviet authorities are aiding the colonists.
Men, women and children are working in the Cherson area at resowing the fields, but there is a lack of sufficient seed. Food for the horses is also lacking.
The official report of the National Minorities Committee of the Ukrainian government has just been issued.
“The farms in the Jewish colonies are well organized,” the report states, “especially in the Cherson district. The relations between the Jewish settlers and the peasants are steadily improving.”
The report complains of a shortage of dairy cattle, preventing the development of dairy farming and also against inadequate cultural and medical institutions. It criticizes the government for having failed to give adequate enlightenment to the Russian peasantry on the reasons why land is being alloted for Jewish colonization and the settlement work is being aided.
