Stanislaw Tilinger. alias Judah Elfenbein who was unmasked as a missionary who posed as a rabbi in New York in March, 1923. has turned up here, seeking to insinuate himself into the Jewish community.
It was learned here that Tillinger spent the last few years in Czechoslovakia where he carried on his “activity.” He asserted here that he was never haptised nor did he hold the position of a priest.
Following the disclosure that he had served as rabbi in a congregation in the Bronx. Tillinger was brought before a sessiion of the Executive Committee of the Union of Orthedox Rabbis in New York City, where he confirmed the charges brought against him that he had been active in missionary work and that he had published unformded accusations against Jews during the Hikner ritual murder trial.
He then signed a document declaring himself to be unworthy of serving in the rabbinate and promising never again to seek the position of rabbi, preacher or teacher, because of “my youthful sins” which became widely known.
A testimonial dinner was given Sunday night at the Jewish Community Eouse of Remsonhurst by the Board of Directors to Herman Nesder land, who has been president of the Community Homes since 1915.
It was annpanced at the dinner that Morris Baird and Les Levy. Vice-Presidents of the Community House, had donated $25,000 jointly to endow the auditorium of the new building.
W. C. Ritter, Judge Grover M. Moscowitz. Justice Edward Lazansky, Justice Mitchell May, Nicholas C. Greenfield. Rabbi Nachman, H. Ebim, Rabbi Max Reicheh and Rabbi Moses M. Yosher were the speakers. Samnel Kramer acted as toastmaster.
