Seventy Jewish families remained roofless as a result of a fire which broke out Thursday night in the center of Galatz. Twelve houses were totally destroyed.

The fire department was unable to cope with the huge blaze. It was not until Friday morning that a military detachment succeeded in localizing the fire.
