Moris Schinasi, cigarette manufacturer, who died on Sept. 10, leaving $5,000,000, has bequeathed $1,300,000 to charity, according to his will filed yesterday.
Of that sum $1,000,000 will go to establish a hospital at Magnesie, his birthplace, near Smyrna. The institution will be called the Morris Schinasi International Hospital. Of the bequest $200,000 will go to the cost of erection and the remainder to the upkeep.
He listed bequests also of $20,000 each to the following hospitals: Beth David, Bronx, Sydenham, Lebanon, Beth Israel, Knickerbocker, St. Vincent’s, St. Joseph’s, Lenox Hill and St. Elizabeth’s.
Bequests of $10,000 were listed to the following: New York Guild for Jewish Blind, National Association to Prevent Blindness, Beth Abraham Home for Incurables, Lakeview Home for Jewish Unmarried Mothers. Staten Island; Hudson Guild, Columbus Hili Day Nursery Association for the Aid of Crippled Children. Institute for Crippled and Disabled Men, Mary M. Osborne Memorial Home Association and the Institute for the Improved Instruction of Deaf Mutes.
The widow, Mrs. Laurette Schinasi of No. 1165 Park Avenue, New York City and three daughters, get the residue of the estate.
Contributions in the amount of $23,292 were announced by Major Benjamin H. Namm. Chairman of the Pre-Campaign Committe of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities which will soon launch its Twentieth Anniversary Appeal for $1,035.000.
Among the contributions to the general Pre-Campaign Fund was $2,500 from Paul Block, publisher of the Brooklyn Standard Union.
A new house of worship for Bual Zion Congregation is to be erected in Chattanooga at a cost of $150,000, it was announced following a meeting of the members.
S. H. Frank has been chosen chairman of the committee which has launched a drive for funds to ercet the new synagogue.
While it is agreed that the old synagogue. property will not be utilized as the site of the new building, no definite decision as to the location of the new one has been reached. Several sites are under consideration.
By the will of Alex Bernheimer, filed for probate, a trust fund for the benifit of hospitals and orphan asylums in New York is to be created. One bequest of $10,000 is to revert to the fund. The amount of the residuary estate which will consititute the trust fund was not made known.
