Dr. William F. Bade, director of the Palestine Institute of the Pacific School of Religion. will leave here in December with his party, to resume his excavations at Tell-en-Nasbeh, eight miles north of Jerusalem, where last year he uneathed an ancient city believed to be the Biblical Mizpah of Benjamin. This will be Dr. Bade’s third expedition, and he expects to remain until next August.
As the result of Dr. Bade’s former expeditions, the Palestine Institute has the most varied single collection of Israel pottery ever found in Palestine. On his last expedition, Dr. Bade uncovered an ancient Israelite temple, built over a still earlier structure which dates from the time of David about 100 to 600 before the Christian era. Ancient wine jars were found in an artificial cave and the handle of one of the jars bore the Hebrew word “Mizpah” which confirmed Dr. Bade’s earlier belief that he had discovered the site of Benjamin’s Mizpah.
PROFESSOR MANN RETURNS TO HEBREW UNION COLLEGE
After a fifteen month’s absence. Dr. Jacob Mann. professor of Jewish history and literature, will return this month to the Hebrew Union College.
Dr. Mann was professor at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and carried on research work in the libraries of St. Petersburg. Moscow and Cairo during his absence from the college.
Dr. Nelson H. Glueck. three times winner of the Mrs. Henry Morgenthau Traveling Scholarship, is the sole addition to the Hebrew Union College faculty. He will teach Hebrew and Bible. He has been studying in Germany and Palestine since his graduation from the College five years ago.
