Sir Joseph Duveen, noted art collector, is widely praised in the London press for his offer to bear the cost of securing the extension of the Tate Galleries. The gift is estimated to involve the expenditure of half a million pounds.
The “Morning Post” declares this generous offer deserves nation-wide gratitude, being one of many which have stirred public imagination. The “Times” in a leading article says this generosity will go down to posterity. No paper mentions the fat that Sir Joseph is a Jew.
