A new Sabbath and Holy Day rest ordinance was promulgated by the municipality of Tel Aviv. The new ordinance permits non-Jews to observe a rest day other than Saturday and supersedes a previous ordinance.

Orthodox members of the municipal council urged a more rigorous ordinance, but were defeated by a laborite majority.
