The opposition of Dr. Stephen S. Wise to the consummation of the plan for the extension of the Jewish Agency was termed “a bomb in the Jewish camp” by Judge Otto A. Rosalsky of the Court of General Sessions and chairman of the New York United Palestine Appeal, who was one of the speakers at a dinner given Sunday night at the Level Club in honor of Abraham Goldberg.
“The Jewish Agency is becoming an accomplished fact, notwithstanding the tyrants who speak in the name of democracy and violate in a most irresponsible manner every democratic principle in the Zionist movement,” Judge Rosalsky stated, without mentioning any names, while speaking on the subject.
The dinner was given under the auspices of a joint committee of various Zionist and other organizations to honor Mr. Goldberg on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his literary and Zionist activities. Louis Lipsky acted as toastmaster. Jacob Fishman presided at the opening, introducing Mr. Lipsky as the toastmaster. The speakers praised Mr. Goldberg’s service to the Zionist cause. The speakers included Rev. Z. H. Masliansky, Morris Rothenberg, Rabbi Israel H. Levinthal, Emanuel Neumann, Dr. S. Margoshes, Peter Wiernick and many others. About 400 guests attended.
Three volumes of Mr. Goldberg’s collected essays in Hebrew will soon be published, it was announced, under the auspices of Ogen, publication committee of the Histadruth Ivrith, Hebraists’ organization of which Mr. Goldberg is president.
