Italian Jewry as a united body, regardless of the division between Zionists and non-Zionists, took action to dispel the fear expressed recently in one of II Duce’s papers as to the influence of Zionist terminology on the loyalty of Italian Jews to the Fascist state.

The “Populo di Roma” published yesterday the text of a memorandum submitted by the Jewish communities of Italy to Benito Mussolini and to the Ministers of Justice and of Worship, in reply to recent remarks on the subject. The memorandum emphasizes the patriotism of Italian Jews, whether Zionists or non-Zionists, during the peace and war. The bravery they have shown renders any doubts of their loyalty impossible. Simultaneously, the Italian Jews are deeply devoted to the land of their ancestors, Palestine, where God manifested himself to them, the memorandum declares.

The memorandum draws attention to the economic possibilities arising from the commercial and cultural life of new Jewish Palestine, which Italy should not overlook.
