Lord Advocate for Scotland Watsoon declared in reply to question that Jewish religious representatives would be eligible for appointment on the local government councils in the seats allotted for religious representatives under the Local Government for Scotland Bill now pending.

With regard to the government’s proposal for the appointment of local government councils, which should also include at least two persons interested in the promotion of religious instruction, to be recommended by a conference of representative churches or denomination bodies within the area concerned, the question was raised as to whether Jews will be entitled to representation. Lord Advocate Watson replied in the affirmative.
