The National Council of Jewish Women has established a girls’ home in Havana, Cuba, to care for young girls who come from Europe to meet their fiances who reside in the United States. The young women are cared for at the Council housing during the two weeks required by Cuban law for the publication of marriage bans.
After the period has expired, weddings are permitted, and the young people then leave for the United States, since the woman, being the wife of an American citizen, is then admissible to the United States regardless of quota restrictions.
An exhibition of the paintings of H. Ary Stillman, American Jewish artist, will be held at the Ainslie Galleries, New York, from March 30th to April 12th. The exhibition will include 17 recent canvases and a group of water color studies of Jerusalem types.
Temple Emanuel of Worcester, Mass., has started a drive for $150,000 to erect a new Temple on the site of the present building. The need for a new Temple has long been evident as the present quarters are inadequate for religious services and have no classrooms and study rooms for educational purposes.
A reception in honor of Dr. Saul Tchernichowsky, physician and poet, will be given by members of the Jewish Academy of Arts and Sciences at the home of Dr. Henry Keller in New York City on Saturday evening, March 16th.
