Telegraph messengers, postmen and delivery boys had to wait in line hours today in front of the house No. 5 Haberland Strasse, delivering congratulations and gifts to Albert Einstein on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday today, although Einstein himself spent today in quiet at some unknown retreat where he fled to avoid any celebrations of his birthday.

Cablegrams and greetings from almost every university in the world arrived for the scientist. The University of Paris sent notification that it had conferred upon him an Honorary Degree.
