Afghanistan was preferred to America as a land of opportunity by Mendel Nuchimson, forsakenly owner of a private bank here, it is related today in the “Express Poranny.” Warsaw paper, which obtained the story from Nuchimson’s relatives who reside here.

Nuchimson had been looking forward to emigrating to America when Poland was visited by Amanullah Khan, King of Afghanistan, during a tour of Europe in 1928.

With a capital of $2,000, Nuchimson proceeded to Kabui, capital of Afghanistan.

The story of his rise in less than a year to the chancellorship of the country exceeds any tale of success in America, the land where many have risen to public office and fortune after long years of struggle. Nuchimson introduced western methods of trade and finance and he was invited to manage state finance, the title of Merza being conferred upon him. He has now been appointed chancellor.
