Secretary of the Interior, Ray Lyman Wilbur, accepted an invitation to speak at the celebration of Prof. Albert Einstein’s fiftieth birthday which will be held Tuesday evening, April 16. at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York.
Secretary Wilbur communicated his acceptance to Herman Bernstein, chairman of the Committee on Arrangements, who extended the invitation in behalf of the Jewish National Fund and the Zionist Organization of America, who are arranging the celebration.
Secretary Wilbur was formerly President of Leland Stanford University. His Department embraces the Federal Burean of Education. This will mark the first Jewish gathering to be attended by a representative of the Hoover administration.
The German Ambassador to the United States. Baron von Prittwitz, also accepted Mr. Bernstein’s invitation to attend the celebration.
One hundred delegates, representing ten communities. formed a permanent organization of junior club leaders at a state conference on junior work held in Newark. N. J., under the auspices of the New Jersey Federation of Y.M.H.A.’s and Y.W.H.A’s Dr. Frederic Thrasher, of New York University, was the principal speaker. The meeting also was addressed by E.J. Londow, executive director of the Federation; Harry Leban, of Elizabeth and Louis Urtang, of Paterson. The second dramatic tournament under the auspices of the Federation will be held in Jersey City, April 14th, it was announced.
Jewish residents from many West Texas towns attended the dedication exercises of Beth Israel Synagogue in San Annelo, the first synagogue in that territory, on Sunday afternoon.
Three local Protestant ministers. Rabbi Harry A. Merfeld of Fort Worth, H. Samson. president of Congregation Both Israel, and David Goldman acting rabbi of the congregation, delivered addresses at the dedication.
