Miss Elizabeth Simon, the Hungarian Jewish girl who was chosen as “Miss Europe” to represent Europe at the international beauty contest in Galveston, Texas, has decided to withdraw from the contest.
Miss Simon said that she was motivated in withdrawing not only because of the letter she received from Bishop Christopher Edward Byrne of Galveston suggesting that the contest was an “unaesthetic spectacle,” but she has become tired of the demonstrations and the anti-Semitic outbursts to which she has been subjected since being chosen “Miss Europe” at the Paris contest. She also dislikes the personal advertisement, she added.
