Roumanian Government Moves to Grant Demand of National Minorities

The long-rumored move on the part of the Roumanian government to appease the demands of the national minorities in Greater Roumania, on the eve of the forthcoming celebration of the anniversary of Roumania’s unity, has taken on concrete form with the publication today of an official statement by Prime Minister Maniu.

According to the government communique, the authorities will now move to a speedy realization of the demands of the national minorities. The Prime Minister has instructed the various government departments to obtain from the leaders of the national minorities detailed data as to the ways and cost of satisfying the needs of the minorities in the field of religious and cultural work.

The Minister of Education was instructed to submit an elaborate bill concerning the number of children of school age of the minorities, the number of state schools having minorities’ pupils and how many more schools are required.

It was declared that Prime Minister Maniu has promised the Jewish parliamentary leaders to include the Jewish needs in the government program.
