The activity of the various cities in the Midwest Region have brought representative results, according to Dr. Leo J. Frachtenberg, executive director of the Midwest Region for the United Palestine Appeal. “We hope that this year the cities of our Region will show much better results than in former years. Reports received by us from many leaders in the Region are indeed very encouraging,” said Dr. Frachtenberg.
The campaign in Hammond, IInd was launched on April 28, with a mass meeting at the synagogue of the Knesseth Israel Congregation. The following is the committee of the campaign: Arthur Weiss, chairman; Leo Woolf, co-chairman; M. Weiner, treasurer.
Today a campaign for the United Palestine Appeal will be opened in Chicago Heights. The quota will be $2,000. The chairman of the Drive there is Nathan Seifer.
On May 6 the United Palestine Appeal campaign will open in Fort Wayne, Ind, with a banquet at which Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof will be the principal speaker. The quota for this city is $7,500. Simultaneously with this banquet there will be a $10 a plate banquet for the women. The chairman of the campaign is Abe Ackerman; secretary, Rabbi S. H. Markowitz; and treasurer, Miss Minnette Baum.
On May 14, the United Palestine Appeal campaign in Peoria will start with a banquet at which Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof of Chicago will be the principal speaker. The quota for Peoria is $6,000. The following are the officers of the campaign: Chairman Clarence A. Uhlman: co-chairmen, Harry Goldstein, Harry A. Frankel.

A drive for $25,000 for the United Palestine Appeal will be inaugurated in Hudson County, N. J. with a reception to Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the World Zionist Executive. Monday night. May 18 at the Jewish Community Center in Jersey City. All the communities in the country, with the exception of Bayonne, which will have a separate campaign for the Appeal are co-operating.
A special Sakolow Reception Committee is headed by J. I. Kislak of Hoboken. A. J. Goldstein of Jersey City is campaign chairman: Rabbi Leon Spitz of Hoboken, heads the executive committee, and Harry Goldowsky of Jersey City, heads a special advisory committee.
Samuel H. Gerson. now doing graduate work i geology at McGill Uiversity, Montreal, has been awarded the Prof. J. F. Ke### mentorial fellowship in geology by Columbia University. This will enable him to continue ### graduate studies at the American university and to complete his second year of work for his Ph.D. degree.
