Statistics made available at the Canadian Department of Immigration show that Canada is the only Dominion within the British Empire that has recorded an increase in British immigration in 1928. According to the British Government figures, some 54,709 British immigrants came to Canada in 1928 as compared to 52916 in 1927 and Canada’s share of British immigration was more than one-half of the entire movement of 108-982 persons from Great Britain and northern Ireland to countries within the Empire. These figures are particularly interesting in view of the fact that they are to be brought up in the parliamentary discussion in Ottawa by those who are afraid that Continental immigration, particularly Eastern and Central European immigration, will overswamp British immigration into this country.
