The first major donation to the Pittsburgh “Y” since the dedication of its new headquarters on Bellefield Avenue three years ago, was made public here this week with the announcement that Isaac W. Frank, philanthropist and executive, had made a gift of $50,000 to the Young Men’s and Women’s Hebrew Association. Although the local “Y” has been the recipient of donations of a minor nature from time to time, Mr. Frank’s contribution is the largest ever received. The money received from this gift will be used to reduce the indebtedness of the association and to increase the scope of its activities.
A member of the Central board of directors of the Y. M. and W. H. A., Mr. Frank has been interested in the Jewish Community Center movement for many years, and is one of the institution’s most devoted supporters. He was a member of the original campaign and building committees for the erection of the present structure.
He is a member of the board of trustees of the Montefiore Hospital, the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, Pittsburgh Association for the Improvement of the Poor, the Rodef Shalom Temple, and numerous other civic, social ,and educational organizations.
