Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, in a press interview here before his departure for the United States from the Zurich sessions of the Zionist Congress and the Jewish Agency.

“It is an outrage that just after the Zionist Congress adopted temperate resolutions calling attention to the unfavorable attitude of the Palestine officials to the Jewish rights in connection with the Wailing Wall that the Palestine government should allow a repetition of violence and further deny the Jewish rights to freedom of worship at the Holy Place,” Mr. Lipsky declared.

“It is the plain duty of the Palestine government not merely to act as arbiter between the Arabs and the Jews in the matter, but to undertake active, energetic steps toward the protection of the prescriptive rights of the Jewish people as regards the Wall.

“This remnant of the Wall with the narrow pavement before it is the only Holy Place to which is attached Jewish sentiments the world over, sentiments which found expression during centuries in prayer and tears at the Wailing Wall. The claim to worship freely there is not offensive to any other religion or race. It involves a right to which the Jewish people are unquestionably entitled, especially since the issuance of the Balfour Declaration.

“It is an international scandal that such unseemly incidents be permitted to occur at the Wall, now, when even at the time of the Turks no such occurrences ever happened. The universal sympathy for Great Britain evoked by the Balfour Declaration and through the Palestine Mandate is being lost by the persistently stupid behavior of the Palestine officials,” Mr. Lipsky declared.
