British Marines Fire in Haifa; Many Killed and Wounded in New Attack

British marines opened fire Tuesday afternoon in Haifa in an attempt to quell the Arab attack on the Sephardic Jewish quarter of the city, located near the railway station. There were many dead and wounded on both sides, the exact number of which is unknown. The marines fired at both sides.

A new S.O.S. call from the Jewish self-defense body reached here Tuesday evening. Jerusalem was described to be in the greatest danger Tuesday night when, according to reliable reports, an army of 2,000 armed Arabs, including Druzes, started a march on Jerusalem.

The government disarmed the British and Jewish special constables, while it was announced that 50 Arab Felaheen were enrolled in the police force.
