The Arabs of Lifta, the first village to attack the Jews of Jerusalem, Motza and other towns, will look to the Grand Mufti to provide money or employment, according to trustworthy accounts of a meeting held on Friday.
Quarrying, which was one of Lifta’s principal occupations, is at a standstill, owing to the temporary cessation of the Jewish building industry. The Lifta villagers now hold the Grand Mufti responsible for their threatened bankruptcy, he presumably having urged them to precipitate the attack.
Opposition among the Moslem Arabs to the Grand Mufti is spreading to other towns. The Moslems of Gaza are preparing a memorandum to be submitted to the government against the head of the Moslem Supreme Council.
The Arab delegation which was to have gone to London will not proceed there until the arrival of the Commission of Inquiry, according to the Arab paper “El Carmel.”
