Sheiks of the quarters of the Old City neighboring the Jewish quarters will be held responsible for any violence or robbery against the Jews declared District Commissioner of Jerusalem, Keith-Roach, to a delegation of the Vaad Leumi, National Council of Palestine Jews.
The District Commissioner advised the Jews of the Georgian quarter, where the assault began on August 23 to return to their homes in view of the protection afforded by the police post near the Damascus Gate.
Mr. Keith-Roach said he was unable to promise patrols in other parts of the city before the arrival of the new British constables, but he undertook to break up the boycott propaganda conducted by the Arab youth in front of Jewish shops.
