Four Arabs of Safed were sentenced to ten years imprisonment each, charged with the murder of Mrs. Lula Farjoun, aged Jewish woman of Safed, during the attack there. Sentence was pronounced by the Haifa District Court sitting as the Criminal Assizes.
The prosecution produced only three witnesses, including the murdered woman’s granddaughter who, concealed under a bed, saw the accused fire. Another witness saw one of the accused, a club in hand, jump from the window and join an armed mob outside the Farjoun house.
Police Commandant Farraday, the third witness, described the conditions in Safed on the day of the attack, repeating the testimony he presented at the trial of the three Arabs sentenced to death for the murder of Isaac Mamaan, Jewish mechanic of Safed.
No Arab lawyer appeared to defend the accused, who did not utter a single word, refusing to answer the judge’s questions.
The verdict was reached after half an hour. The verdict declares that the accused participated in violence, threatening Jewish life and property.
