Isaac Abbdis, 50-year-old Jewish fishmonger, a native of Jaffa, has been placed on trial here on the charge of attempted murder. Abbdis is accused of shooting and wounding six Arabs on August 25. Both the prosecution and the defense counsel are Jews, the prosecutor being Government Advocate Bardaky and the defense attorney, Dunkelblum.

On the witness stand, the Arab witnesses for the prosecution told conflicting stories, differing radically from their depositions made before the magistrate.

The case has caused considerable astonishment and interest, particularly among the Sephardic Jews, as Abbdis is known as a peaceful, law-abiding citizen.
