Of Palestine’s total area of 25 million dunams of land it is estimated that, exclusive of the million dunams in the Beersheba district occupied by Bedouins, about 11 million dunams are cultivatable and of this one million dunams are in the possession of the Jews, Drummond Shiels, undersecretary for the Colonies reported in the House of Commons.

An additional statement of his revealed that in the three months following the riots more Jewish immigrants entered Palestine than in the three months preceding the riots. His figures showed that for the three months ending August 31, 631 Jewish immigrants entered the country and 367 Jewish tourists were permitted to settle there while during September, October and November following the riots 2,057 Jewish immigrants entered and 250 Jewish tourists were allowed to settle.
