The new Rodeph Sholom Temple, located on West Eighty-third Street, near Central Park West, was formally dedicated Friday night at the Sabbath services. The key of the temple was presented by Charles B. Meyers, a member of the dedication committee, to Ernest J. Wile, president, who accepted it on behalf of the congregation. The Rev. Dr. Stephen S. Wise then unveiled memorial tablets to his father, Dr. Aaron Wise, and Dr. Rudolph Grossman, former rabbis of the congregation.
Dr. Louis I. Newman, rabbi-elect of the congregation, was then introduced by Maurice B. Blumenthal. Rabbi Newman, at present of the Temple Emanu-el, San Francisco, will assume his duties at Rodeph Sholom in September.
A congregational dinner was held last night, at which Mr. Blumenthal, chairman of the dedication committee, presided. The speakers were Mr. Wile, Dr. Wise, Rev. Dr. Nathan Krass, Rabbi Newman and Alexander Pfeiffer. This afternoon the religious school of the new temple, and this evening the Rudolph Grossman Memorial Library, will be dedicated. Tomorrow afternoon the Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood will hold exercises in the temple.
