Responding to the pleas of Jewish leaders of New York and New Jersey, who urged the need for an aroused Jewish consciousness in relation to the manifold Jewish problems in Europe and the United States 250 delegates representing leading Jewish communities of New Jersey, meeting at a conference held Sunday afternoon and evening at the Newark Y. M. H. A., organized a permanent New Jersey State region of the American Jewish Congress.

Addresses were delivered by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise and Bernard S. Deutsch. Judge Joseph Siegler of Newark who presided at the afternoon session, was named president of the conference, and Bernard Miller was toastmaster of the dinner. Following an appeal for funds by Rabbi Wise and Bernard Miller, nearly $1,500 were pledged, Mr. Miller giving the largest individual contribution of $300.
