A symbolic slap in the face, is how the Hebrew daily, “Davar,” describes the ordinance just made public that regulates the order of precedence in public ceremonies. The ordinance was published in the Official Gazette and regulates precedence in the following order:

The High Commissioner, commanders of British forces, chief justice, district commissioners, Grand Mufti, Orthodox, Latin and Armenian patriarchs, Anglican bishop, Chief Rabbis, president of the Moslem Court of Appeal, members of the advisory council, solicitor general, presidents and members of the various courts, police chiefs, commander of the Transjordan frontier force, mayors, members of the Moslem Supreme Council, chairman of the Zionist Executive, chairman of the Vaad Leumi, magistrates, muftis, bishops and town councillors.
