The British government has rejected the nomination of Sir Isaacs, chief justice of Australia, for the governor-generalship of Australia, it was learned here today. The nomination of Sir John Monash, commander of the Australian forces in the World War, is also unlikely because the Labor Party is opposed to the appointment of a soldier. The matter of a new governor-general has been left in abeyance pending the arrival of Premier Scullin in London in August for a discussion of the matter.
