Facts about discriminations practiced against Jews in this country in their efforts to obtain employment, which are now being investigated by a committee appointed by the American Jewish Congress, were discussed on Thursday at a closed meeting following a luncheon at the Biltmore Hotel. Eighteen business leaders who came to the meeting and who listened to an address by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise offered their support and cooperation in the investigation.
In his address Dr. Wise declared that Jewish men and women in the United States are now so handicapped in business that the situation is assuming serious proportions. He urged those present to cooperate in the investigation and declared that several Christian organizations had promised their support in this work.
INVESTIGATING COMMITTEE
Among those who reported on the results of the investigation up to now were David L. Podell, chairman of the committee which is undertaking the work; Bernard S. Deutsch, president of the American Jewish Congress; and Rabbi Jacob X. Cohen, executive secretary of the Free Synagogue. At the next session of the American Jewish Congress, to be held in October, a full report of the study will be made.
