The Ninth National Encampment of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States opened here tonight with a military ball at the Biltmore Hotel. The convention will close its sessions on Sunday. More than two hundred national, state and city officials attended tonight’s dance. Major Charles M. Hoffman is chairman of the committee in charge of the convention.
At tomorrow’s sessions of the Encampment addresses will be heard from Governor Norman S. Case of Rhode Island; James M. Curley, Mayor of Boston; James Dunne, Mayor of Providence; and Joseph E. Warner, Attorney General of Massachusetts. Impressive memorial services are planned for tomorrow evening at the Temple Beth Israel, where addresses will be delivered by Julius S. Berg, National Commander of New York and former Senator Gerry. The services will be conducted will be conducted by Rabbi Lissman of the Riverside Synagogue, New York.
On Saturday the Encampment members will visit Newport, attending exercises at the Touro-Synagogue and visiting the Naval Training Station. Saturday evening will be devoted to business and a banquet. On Sunday the new officers will be elected and installed.
