Despite the government’s refusal to permit any political demonstrations to color the religious observation of the fortieth day since the execution of the three Arabs for their part in the riots of last Summer, the Arab Executive, in an impassioned appeal issued yesterday, described the “martyrs who went to their death with smiling lips and hearts full of faith” as “the forerunners of liberty and independence.” The statement denied that the executed Arabs were guilty of any crime. “They were the victims of imperialism, alien aggression and political intrigue”, it concludes.
The Arab Executive, after a prolonged session on Friday, decided that religious services at the Mosque of Acre yesterday would be semi-political in character. The services held at Safed were uneventful due to adequate police precautions.
