An appeal to Jewish philanthropists to help him publish a treatise on Jewish law which was left by his great-grandfather, the “Yanover Gaon”, has been issued by Rabbi M. N. Weisblatt of this city in the form of an advertisement in the Baltimore “Morning Sun.” The appeal is endorsed by Congregations Anshe Sephard, Shomre Hadath, Anshe Kolk and Anshe Vohlin of Baltimore, and Wohliner Anshe Sephard of Washington. In the appeal Rabbi Weisblatt says:
“My great-grandfather, the sainted Rabbi Judah Leib Weisblatt, who was famed throughout the world as the ‘Yanover Gaon’, bequeathed to posterity a scholarly work of great merit. It is a treatise of Jewish law that, if published, would be of incalculable help to rabbis, schochtim and even to laymen. It was his devout wish to have the work printed in his lifetime, for the enrichment of Jewish learning. But unhappily it was not given to him to accomplish it. The manuscripts have been in my possession for many years.
“The act of gratifying the wish of a departed sage is of supreme importance, and I offer this opportunity to every Jewish philanthropist to share in the great Mitzvah. By subscribing in advance for the book you will be facilitating its early publication”.
