The fire that yesterday destroyed the largest synagogue in Roumania at Maramoresh-Sighet is still burning today it is reported. It is alleged that when the fire broke out an odor of gasoline was noticeable in the vicinity. The fire spread so quickly that despite the heroic efforts of the Jewish population it was impossible to save the Torah scrolls. A detachment of troops is aiding in fighting the fire.
