A committee of seven rabbis, appointed by a meeting of 50 others, held Tuesday evening in the Broadway Central Hotel, has been delegated to call on Mayor Walker and Commissioner of Markets Dwyer and discuss the kosher meat question with them. The rabbis’ conference represented about 500,000 Jews in Greater New York.
In the meantime, Commissioner of Accounts Higgins announced that he would take up with the district attorneys of Manhattan and Brooklyn the question of obtaining immunity, if merited, for 25 kosher meat dealers who are said to be prepared to offer evidence of graft attempts on the part of inspectors of the Department of Markets.
Commissioner Higgins’ examination of inspectors of the kosher squad of the Department of Markets continued yesterday and he also conferred on the kosher meat question with Mayor Walker.
