Newark (Sep. 5)
A notable precedent has been set by the local Board of Education in granting permission to a Talmud Torah to conduct its classes in a public school building. The religious school of the Tifereth Zion Congregation, Orthodox, is undergoing alterations, and the officers applied to the Board for permission to conduct classes in a nearby school building for one month.
Contrary to expectations, the request entailed little discussion, several board members taking the view that if political meetings are permitted in school auditoriums, the request for use for religious instruction was not out of place. There is only one Jewish member of the board, former Judge Edward Schoen.
